Screenwriting + Film Background:
Craig Gary Phillips is a San Francisco-based writer who has worked in film and journalism in both the Bay Area and Los Angeles for many years. He has been a script reader and development associate in Hollywood for directors Jon Avnet, Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz (My So Called Life, Glory, The Last Samurai); and also worked for HBO, Miramax, Dimension and Mandeville Films. He was a production assistant on several films including the mockumentary On Edge. He has optioned several screenplays, most recently a WWII script to director Charles Burnett (To Sleep With Anger; Killer of Sheep); and is now at work on two new script projects including an homage to Mexican horror. He has also won the Hollywood Screenplay Award, and a National Society of Arts and Letters TV writing contest. He's assisted as associate producer, social media coordinator and researcher on the documentary film A Fierce Green Fire. He currently works at ITVS for Independent Lens as an interactive editor and writer.
Craig has also produced a short documentary, "Connected," about a '90s internet social scene called SF NET; and a short film called "Just Shy," with Heather Nicole.
